Mrs. Gwen Kendall Hall, age 84, of Deepstep died Sunday night, September 25, 2011, in the Washington County Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday September 28th in the Deepstep United Methodist Church with burial in the Deepstep United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Larry Giles, Rev. Griffin Thompson and Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Mrs. Hall was a native of Johnson County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Harry Kendall and the late Viola Daniels Kendall. She was the wife of the late Emmitt W. Hall, Jr.. Mrs. Hall was a 1943 graduate of Tennille High School and a graduate of Southern Business University with a diploma in general business. She was a payroll clerk for Washington Manufacturing Company, a bookkeeper for Tennille banking Company and a bookkeeper for the Washington County Board of Education Title 1. She was a former bookkeeper for Sheram Construction and for eighteen years was the bookkeeper for Smith-Sheppard Concrete Company. Mrs. Hall was a member of the Deepstep United Methodist Church and served for many years on the official board of the church and church secretary. Mrs. Hall was a member and past president of the Washington County Pilot Club and a member and secretary of the Washington County Historical Society. She was the author of a book entitled “A History of Deepstep, Georgia”. She thought her most important achievement was being a mother to her children.
Survivors are three daughters, Beth H. Giles and her husband Larry of Deepstep, Dorenda H. Smith of Deepstep and Jan H. Rachels and her husband Jay of Warthen, two sons, Emmitt W. Hall III and his wife Gloria of Deepstep and Randy K. Hall and his wife Ellen of Deepstep, a sister, Betty K. Everett of Warthen, a brother, Stevens E. Kendall of Sandersville, twelve grandchildren, Clint Hall, William Hall, Daniel Hall, Matt Sheram, Zach Sheram, Anna Robinson, Jasmine Williams, Ryan Smith, Jana Hill, Jaci Rachels, Jake Rachels and Kaitlyn Hall, eleven great grandchildren, Rachel Hall, Blake Hall, McClaine Hall, Liam Hall, Mackenzie Sheram, Madison Sheram, Josh Sheram, Toribeth Sheram, Sam Williams, Andy Williams and Arianna Smith.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday. The family suggests that donations be made to the Heritage Room of the Deepstep United Methodist Church, 9968 Deepstep Road, Sandersville, GA 31082 or the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 632, Sandersville, GA 31082.
