Aaron H. Youngblood, 78, of North Brown Street in Oconee passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, December 1, 2022. A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 2:00p.m. at Antioch Christian Church Cemetery in Oconee. Roy Crowe will officiate.
Aaron was born outside the city limits of Dexter on February 25, 1944 to the late Mac Donal Youngblood and the late Amanda Dykes Youngblood. One of six boys, he attended and graduated from Dexter High School. After high school he attended Middle Georgia College and later worked at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville until drafted by the United States Army at age 23. Corporal Youngblood served as a radio operator on the front lines in Vietnam. Upon discharge he returned to Milledgeville and worked at Central State Hospital while attending Georgia College. There he met Melanie McDonald, the love of his life, and they married in 1972. After earning his Bachelor of Business Administration degree, he and Melanie moved to LaGrange, GA where he worked as an accountant for the State of Georgia West Health District which consisted of thirteen counties. Here he started the WIC program. While in LaGrange he and Melanie also owned and operated a Huddle House and two ice cream parlors.
In 1981, after the birth of their first daughter, Amanda, he and Melanie returned to Milledgeville, and he joined the Georgia Department of Corrections. Prior to the birth of his second and “favorite daughter”, Mary Elinor, the family moved to Oconee. He retired from the Department of Corrections as a weapons & knife defense instructor. After retirement he enjoyed gardening, drinking coffee each afternoon, and visiting with his extended family. Aaron was a wit and he loved to entertain family. He especially loved his grandchildren. Aaron is predeceased by his infant son, John McDonald Youngblood and brothers MD Youngblood, Jr., Russell Youngblood, and Jack Youngblood.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Melanie McDonald Youngblood, daughters, Amanda Youngblood Collins (Daniel) of Oconee and Mary Elinor Youngblood Hodges (Bryan) of Oconee, grandchildren, Graybill Collins, Tucker Collins, John Taylor Hodges, Caroline Hodges, and Mac Aaron Hodges all of Oconee, a brother Phil Youngblood (Joy) of Alamo a host of nieces and nephews.
