Alex Gilmore Smith Jr

Mr. Alex Gilmore Smith, Jr., age 62, of Sandersville, died Saturday, December 16, 2017, in an Augusta hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 18 in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville.  Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be Justin McBride, Lance Smith, Luke Smith, Kevin Morris, Robbie Morris, Scott Smith and Shawn Smith.  Burial will be private for family only.

Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Alex Gilmore Smith, Sr. and the late Otelia Tanner Smith.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Rhonda Morris.  Mr. Smith was a retired inspector for Lapp Insulator Company.  He grew up in Tabernacle Methodist Church but was a member of First Christian Church of Sandersville.  Mr. Smith was a little league baseball coach for over fifteen years.

Survivors are his three sons, Jason Smith and his wife Jennifer of Dawsonville, Trey Smith of Milledgeville and Daniel Smith of Winder; grandson, Luke Smith; his significant other, Terrie Worthy of Sandersville; brothers, Tony Smith and his wife Marsha of Sandersville and David Smith of Guyton; brother in law, Robert Morris of Sandersville.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 1:00 P.M. on Monday until the hour of service.
