Alice Brown Young

Mrs. Alice Brown Young, 96, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Heritage Inn in Sandersville, Georgia.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, at Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church near Tennille, Georgia. Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate with the burial in Mt. Gilead Church Cemetery. The Pallbearers will be Josh Young, Evans McDaniel, Frank McDaniel, Grady Jones, Bonner Jones, and Jonathan Brantley. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday, May 7, from 10:30 until the hour of service.

Mrs. Young was a lifelong resident of Washington county.  She was the daughter of the late Thomas Irwin Brown and Eula McGahee Brown. She worked for Southern Bell Telephone in Tennille.  She also worked at the Ideal Beauty Shop in Sandersville.  Mrs. Young loved her hometown of Sandersville, and she loved learning and sharing much of the history of Sandersville and Washington County. She was a member of the Governor Jared Irwin Chapter of the DAR and Washington County Historical Society.  She was the oldest living member of the Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church at the time of her death.

Mrs. Young is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Frank Louis Young, Sr.  She is also predeceased by her siblings; Virginia Brown Cherry, Thomas Irwin Brown, Jr., Edna Brown White, Julius Brown, Bernard Brown, Kathleen Brown Edwards, Dorothy Brown Crabb, J. W. Brown, Elizabeth Brown Gettys, and Nellie Brown Davis.

Survivors include her son, Frank L. Young, Jr. and his wife, Louise, of Sandersville, and William Young and his wife, Elaine, of Tennille.  Grandchildren include Caroline Y. McDaniel, Molly Y. Jones, Josh Young, Kimmy Y. Brooker, and Matt Reid. Great-Grandchildren are Evans McDaniel, Gabby McDaniel, Frank McDaniel, Grady Jones, Emersyn Jones, Aubrey Young, Abe young, Axel Young, and Banks Brooker.

The family wants to thank the staff of the Heritage Inn for their love and compassionate care.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church, 154 Mt. Gilead Road, Tennille, Georgia 31089.
