Allen Joseph Gibson

d. July 22, 2023

Allen Joseph Gibson completed his journey on Earth the morning of July 22, 2023. He lived his entire life in Tennille, Georgia where he was preceded in death by his parents Doris and Allen Gibson, as well as his nephews Jeff and Brent Caneega.

Services will be held at Tennille Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 25th, at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Conducting the service will be Reverend Dr. Brian Welch, Bryant Poss, Michael Caneega, and Basik Truth. Pallbearers will be David Nolan, Michael Caneega, Bryant Poss, Zac Keaton, Emory Trawick, and Jimmy Purser. Honorary escorts will be Carl Forrester, Aubrey Wiggins, and Robert Walk.  Joe's family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Mr. Joe owned Gibson’s Radio and TV in Sandersville from where he served the communities of Washington as well as the surrounding counties throughout his life. A benevolent soul, he was often sought after by members of the community to handle many different issues. Joe was loved by all as a man who passed no judgment and offered only kind words. He was a man who seldom strayed from a righteous path, and he will be painfully missed by those who knew him best. Devoted from his beginning, he was given the name Joseph for being born on December 25th, a Christmas present promised to his sisters.

A longtime member of the Tennille Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and IT chair along with being a member of the Brotherhood. Joe was recognized earlier in the year by the church and presented a plaque in recognition of his exemplary Christian service. Despite his failing health, he made every effort to assist the church in every way he could.

Surviving Mr. Gibson are his daughter Lauren Poss (Bryant) of Hoschton and grandchildren Taylor, Skyla, Jack, and Gabe; sisters Jeanette Caneega of Wrightsville (D-Lamar) and Jane Gravelle of Fairfax, VA (D-Clark); niece Jenny Stratton (Adam) of Annandale, VA; and great-nephew Michael Caneega (Ivey) of Wrightsville.

If preferred, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent in Mr. Gibson’s honor to Tennille Baptist Church Growth Fund (Tennille Baptist Church, 203 North Main St., Tennille, GA, 31089.
