Allene Young Flanders

Mrs. Allene Young Flanders, age 93, of 214 Richmond Street in Sandersville died on Thursday, February 27, 2014, in an Augusta hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 2nd, in the Sandersville United Methodist Church with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Joe Buck IV will officiate. Pallbearers will be Daniel Avrett, Mark Whitesides, Scott Whitesides, David Wolfe, Allen Wolfe, Phillip Wolfe, Austin Whitesides, Gabe Avrett, Zach Towner and Ethan Webster.

Mrs. Flanders was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late George Clinton Young and the late Vianna Waters Young. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Flanders was a member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and a former member of the Sandersville Garden Club.

Survivors are her husband of 73 years, Frank F. Flanders of Sandersville; three daughters, Frances Flanders Avrett of Oakwood, GA, Emily Flanders Whitesides and her husband Ed of Murrayville, GA and Carole Flanders Wolfe and her husband Larry of Temple Terrace, FL; eleven grandchildren, twenty- one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Price of Statesboro and Julia Hartley of Sandersville.

The family suggests donations be made to the Methodist Children’s Home, P. O. Box 2525, Macon, Georgia 31203. The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Saturday.
