Andrew Joe Garner

Mr. Andrew Joe Garner, age 69, of Tennille died on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at home surrounded by his family after an extended  illness.  A memorial service for Mr. Garner will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 7, 2021 in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville.  Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate.

Joe was born in Sandersville and raised in Tennille, the son of the late Jerry Lee Garner, Sr. and the late Martha Brown Garner.  He graduated from Washington County High School and went on to join the Georgia National Guard.  He returned home to run Hinsley’s Ice and Produce Store and eventually opened his own store on Highway 22 in Sparta.  His passion for building and working with his hands lead to a long career as a self-employed carpenter.  After many years he hung up the tool belt and retired his overalls and went to work at Washington State Prison in the maintenance department until he retired.  Joe had been an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Sandersville and supported the programs of the church.  He built many props for the activities of the church and was a general handyman for repairs of the church. Joe is preceded in death by his sister, Celesta Ann Garner Miller.

Survivors are his significant other, Kaye Hinsley Garner; children, Amy Garner Hattaway (Michael) of Harrison, Angela Jill Garner (Sherman) of Sandersville, and Pamela Garner Rountree (Scott) of Tennille; step-son, Al Seymour (Trina) of Greensboro; step-daughter, Stacy White (Buddy) of Loganville; grandchildren, Joshua Butler, Autumn Hattaway, Aubrey Raye, Kaitlyn Rountree, Mackenzie Rountree, Victoria Smith, Mary Beth White, Jonathan White, Jamie Seymour, Cody Seymour and Jessica Slocomb;  sisters, Gail Harrison (Thomas), and Kathy Dukes (Shane) both of Dublin; brothers, Jack Garner, Jerry Lee Garner, Jr. (Anna), James Garner (Denise), and Johnny Garner, all of Tennille.
