Barbara Lyon Wood

Mrs. Barbara Lyon Wood, age 86, formerly of Woodland Drive in Sandersville, died Monday, January 26, 2015 at Wrightsville Manor following an extended illness. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 29TH, at 2:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Davisboro City Cemetery. Reverends Marlon Lastinger and Lee Lacey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ben Layton, Ben Wood, Cal Brantley, Harley Wood, Dean Davis and Jason Davis.

Mrs. Wood was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County the daughter of the late Harold Lyon and the late Minnie Mae Price Lyon. She was a career educator working for the Washington County Board of Education for 39 years. Mrs. Wood was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sandersville. She shared her lifelong love of music as a pianist and also as a member of the Sandersville Music Club. Her husband William F. Wood, Sr. and her son Charles David Wood both predecease her.

Survivors are her son, Franklin Wood and his wife Celeste of Wrightsville; her daughter-in-law Judy P. Wood of McRae; grandchildren, Andrea W. Hendley and her husband Brian of Nevils, Kathryn W. Harvey and her husband Andrew of Statesboro, Ben Wood of Warthen, Ashley Wood of Dublin and Kelly W. Bolyard of Dexter; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Elmer Lyon and his wife Joan of Monroe and Harold Lyon, Jr. and his wife Margie of Fairfax VA; her sister, Marinel L. Davis of Donaldsonville; sisters-in-law, Faye W. Powell and Alice M. Wood both of Wrightsville; and her dear friend and caregiver, Linda Williams of Sandersville.

The family will be at the residence of Celeste and Franklin Wood, 8690 Bartow-Dublin Road, Wrightsville and they will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
