Evans, Ga. – U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, Bennie Herman Tapley was born on July 12, 1936, and passed away on October 23, 2014, after an extended illness at the age of 78. The son of the late Carswell and Pearl (Woods) Tapley ,he is the oldest of six children. He was also a loving, caring hero to his younger siblings and parents.

Bennie moved to Evans after retiring from the Army, having achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a decorated Veteran serving in the Vietnam War for three tours of duty. He is the recipient of the Silver Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star. Bennie was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a very dedicated pet owner.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Brenda Tapley and a brother-in-law Bruce Anderson.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie Rush, on grandson Erich Hines, both of Missouri; one step daughter, Diana Lambert, Martinez; one stepson Eric Kent of Augusta; three brothers, James Kermit Tapley, Dearing, Wayne Irvin Tapley (Connie), Sandersville, Glenn Wyman Tapley (Ann), of Evans; two sisters, Joyce Tapley Anderson, Dublin and Judith M. Tapley Hargrove (Duane) of Horn Lake Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of the Military. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marlon Anderson, Steven Anderson, Mark Tapley, William Tapley, Eric Kent, Travis Yarbrough and Doug Watkins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2014, in the Chapel of Bellevue Memorial with the Reverend Danny Thomas officiating with full Military Honors accorded. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
