Mrs. Bertie Mae Sargent McDonald, age 84, of Warthen, died on Thursday morning, December 8, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 11 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Warthen with burial in the church cemetery. Reverend Tim Powell, Mr. Dwayne McDonald, Reverend Gary Mimbs, and Reverend Billy Duggan will officiate. Pallbearers will be B.J. Wasden, Stewart McDonald, Matthew Brown, Tyler Owens, Trey Logue, Nic Goodson, Aaron Clements, Clint Beasley and Logan Register.
Mrs. McDonald was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Albert Abram Sargent and the late Virgie Mae Swint Sargent. She was preceded in death by her son, Barry A. McDonald. She was an active member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and served in many capacities including fifteen years as Vacation Bible School Director, Women's Missionary Union Director, Sunday School Teacher and History Committee. She was the only woman elected to the Georgia Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors. Mrs. McDonald served as the Georgia Farm Bureau Woman's Committee State Chairman and the American Farm Bureau Woman's Committee representing the southern region. She was a charter member of the Warthen Town and Country Club, a member of the Governor Jared Irwin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter member of the Pilot Club of Washington County.
Survivors included: her husband of 66 years, Lonnie S. McDonald of Warthen; children, Lonna M. Deraney and her husband Danny of Mitchell, Ken P. McDonald and his wife Lynn of Tennille, Keith S. McDonald and his wife Robin of Warthen and Leigh M. Fitzgerald and her husband Bobby of Warthen; sister, Stella Sue Sargent Jackson of Sandersville; grandchildren, Jeanne M. Hall and her husband Keith, Kim M. O'Neal, Denise D. Brown and her husband Benji, Kelli D. Kent, Lori D. Gibson and her husband Bubba, Stewart McDonald, Melanie McDonald, Lindsay M. Goodson and her husband Nic, Natalie M. Clements and her husband Aaron, B. J. Wasden, Brandi Fitzgerald, Brittany F. Beasley and her husband Clint and Blair F. Register and her husband Logan and twenty three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Bethlehem Baptist Church from 1:00 P.M. Sunday until the hour of service at 2:00 P.M.
