Betty Barnes Barfield

April 9, 1936 — February 17, 2023

Mrs. Betty Barnes Barfield, age 86, of Harrison passed peacefully at home on Friday, February 17, 2023 surrounded by family.  A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, February 20 th at 2:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate.

Mrs. Barfield was born and reared in Berrien County Georgia, the daughter of the late Johnny B. Barnes and the late Clara Bryant Barnes.  She soon moved to Gordon where she began her working career and married her late husband George Nathaniel Barfield. She and George moved to Washington County where she continued working for J.P. Stevens Company from which she retired from Forstmanns as a loom weaver.  Mrs. Barfield also worked for Washington Manufacturing Company and the William Carter Company.  She was a longtime member of Tabernacle Methodist Church.  Mrs. Barfield had a passion for flowers and won many awards from showing the Iris.  She loved to make quilts, play chinese checkers and fish.  In addition to her parents and husband, her sons, William Roger Barfield and Lee Edward Barfield both predecease her.

Survivors include her children, Cheryle Barfield Dunn of Haddock, Sandra Barfield Norwood (Jimmy) of Sandersville and Stanley Barfield of Harrison; grandchildren, Jimmy Norwood (Shannon), Jessica McDaniel (Jason), Jennifer Bonner (Brad), Ashley Wilds (Casey), Courtney Claxton (Josh) and Brittany Barfield; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Alice Jernigan (Dwight) and Mae Purvis (Huelon) all of Enigma, GA.
