Betty Smith Cheely

Mrs. Betty Smith Cheely, age 76, of 114 Peach Farm Road in Davisboro died Sunday, January 5, 2014, in the Heritage Inn. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 8th, in the Union Baptist Church near Warthen. The Reverend Robert Cash will officiate with burial in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeffery Blue, Lee Duncan, Ellis Martin, Stevie Martin, Chris Vaden and Chris Simpson.

Mrs. Cheely was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Delma G. Smith, Sr. and the late Agnes Garner Smith. She was the wife of the late Ray Cheely. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Blue and her sisters, Linda Phillips, Carrie Bell Carr, Eva Grace Adams and Nellie Ruth Smith. She was a retired machine operator with the William Carter Company. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Union Baptist Church.

Survivors are a daughter, Doris Cheely Kitchens and her husband Mike of Davisboro; a brother, Delma G. Smith, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Thompson; three grandchildren, Jeffery Blue and his wife Candace, Amanda Simpson and Dani Yates; and five great- grandchildren, Jeremy Simpson, Raygan Simpson, Symatha Simpson, Grayce Simpson and Mary Elizabeth McNeely.

The family suggests donations be made to the Union Baptist Church, c/o Chris Vaden, 2830 Mills Lindsey School Road, Warthen, Georgia 31094.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
