Betty Johnson Hitchcock

Mrs. Betty Johnson Hitchcock, age 93, of Tennille passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Heritage Inn Nursing Home, following an extended illness.  A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m., in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Weston Williford will officiate.  Mrs. Hitchcock's family will receive friends prior to her funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Mrs. Hitchcock was a lifelong resident of Washington County, daughter of the late Alton and Nettie Johnson.  She attended school in Tennille and married her husband, the late Horace Hitchcock Jr., early in life.  She was a homemaker and also a longtime salesclerk at Maxwells Department Store in downtown Tennille.  She loved working outside in her yard, especially with her azaleas.  She was an excellent cook, enjoying fresh produce from her garden.  Reading and working crossword puzzles were some of her favorite pastimes.  Later in life she enjoyed traveling.  Mrs. Hitchcock is predeceased by her parents, husband, her daughter Brenda Hitchcock and siblings Margaret Lindsey and Harvey Johnson.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Christina H. Andrews and her husband Ashley of Tennille and a special friend Pat Hendry of Milledgeville and numerous extended family members.
