Betty Bray Moehrbach, born in Lovette, Georgia on January 6, 1933, died at 6:30 p.m. on September 2, 2020, at Northside Cherokee Hospital in Canton, Georgia. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 2:00p.m. in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville, Georgia.
Betty was predeceased by her mother, Reba Ashley Jackson Newsome, father, Hubert Bray, and stepfather, Willard Clark Newsome. She grew up with her younger sister, June Bray, and graduated from Washington County High School in Sandersville, Georgia. Betty earned her BS in Business Administration from Georgia State College for Women (GSCW, now Georgia College) in Milledgeville, Georgia in 1954.
Betty grew up in the “country” and had an instinct for cooking. She parlayed her talent into a successful catering business, Catered Compliments, Inc., that was well known for decades on the north side of Atlanta for its lavish affairs, luxurious wedding receptions, and outstanding cake creations. Betty created the cake for President Ronald Reagan when he celebrated his birthday at a Buckhead home and created a unique wedding cake and reception for Atlanta Braves picture, Tom Glavin. The thing is, her cakes and food were good. If you tried something, you wanted the recipe. She proved herself to be a good businesswoman, accomplished planner, caterer and baker. She was a student of food preparation. When she died, she left a library of culinary art and technique containing over 1,000 hardbound books.
Her family will miss all the wonderful occasions she created for us on holidays, on birthdays, for graduations, weddings, announcements, and more often, when she just wanted to see us. Every dinner and celebration at her Roswell home of 45 years was a bounty of fresh from scratch food, surprise dishes, and family time. She was inexhaustible, charismatic and smart. We will miss her in so many ways.
She is survived by her husband, Otto K. Moehrbach, stepdaughter, Katie Eddlemon (Dwight), sister, June Bray Kelly (Kenneth), and her only living niece, Sheri Kelly Blair (Rusty); sons, Randall F. Rogers (Paula) and Richard K. Rogers (Elizabeth), daughter, Kathy Rogers Parker (Michael); grandchildren, Ashley Rogers Ross (Andrew), Elizabeth Rogers Nissen (Drew), Dylan F. Rogers (Samantha), Caroline N. Rogers, John Franklin Rogers, and great-grandchildren, Theodore F. Rogers and Charlotte Lydia Ross.
