Sandersville, GA

Betty June Hartley Wright, 87, died on April 13, 2026, after a long battle with dementia.

Betty was born in Riddleville, Georgia on April 7, 1939, and moved to Tennille at age 9 with her mother, grandmother and brother. She attended school in Tennille and graduated from there in 1958 and was a member of the Tennille Baptist Church.

In the same year, she married the love of her life, Billy Wright, and moved to Sandersville. She then joined Sisters Baptist Church where she remained a member until her death.

For a brief time, she was a seamstress for Royal Manufacturing Company, after which she became a homemaker. In the early 1970’s, Betty began keeping children at home in private daycare, including in the early days caring for her beloved nieces and nephews John, Deborah and Cliff Wright. Over the years she cared for numerous children who she adored and thought of as her own. She was affectionately known as “Miss Betty” by kids and parents alike.

Betty is survived by her daughter Sharon Smith and her son Dalton; and son Greg Wright and his husband Peter Franklin of Tryon North Carolina. She treasured her cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, William Talmadge Wright, who just passed away two months ago, her mother Ruby Fulghum Jackson Hartley, and her brother William Allen Jackson and his wife Jewel.

The family is grateful to all of her family and friends for their support, her caregivers, the staff at Heritage Inn and Affinis Hospice.

There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Sisters Baptist Church. The family will be at the home of Sharon Smith, 7250 Highway 88, Sandersville.
