Mr. Billy Doolittle, age 91 of Oconee, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at his residence. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Bay Springs Cemetery in Oconee. Reverend Cathy Greene, Reverend Randall Smith, and Mr. Chris Mayhew will officiate. Pallbearers will be Shane Doolittle, James Byrd, Ron May, Tony Mathis, Lamar Doolittle, and Anthony Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elijah Doolittle, John Doolittle, Richie Doolittle, Tyler Mathis, Chris Mathis, Jimmy Doolittle, Johnathan Bailey, Danny Anderson, David Anderson, Donald Barrow, and Billy Brantley. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service in the sanctuary of Bay Springs Church in Oconee.

Mr. Doolittle was a lifelong resident of Washington County, born in Tennille to the late William Elmer Doolittle and Hilda Brantley Doolittle. He proudly served his county in the United States Army during the period of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Doolittle spent his working career as a Quality Control Lab Supervisor at Thiele Kaolin Company. During the 1970’s and 1980’s he helped at Herb’s Fish Place. In his free time, he found much enjoyment in farming, particularly working with cattle, as well as watching Westerns. In retirement Mr. Doolittle, along with his loving wife, Jean, took care of their grandchildren, and could often be found out to breakfast at one of the local establishments. Mr. Doolittle was a very benevolent man, who never met a stranger was always willing to lead a helping hand. He was a committed and faithful member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Above all else he was devoted to Christ and was a loving and caring father and husband. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Anderson Doolittle.

Mr. Doolittle is survived by his son, Eric Doolittle (Susan) of Johns Creek; daughters, Gail Doolittle Knight of Oconee, and Leslie Ann Mathis of Sandersville; grandchildren, Megan Hunter (Leah), Elijah Doolittle (Belle), John Doolittle (Brianna), Richie Doolittle, Shane Doolittle, Tyler Mathis (Kaylan), Chris Mathis ( Shelby Lyn); great grandchildren, Joshua Mathis, Avery Mathis, Annie Doolittle, and Wyatt Doolittle; sister, Nell Parker of Sandersville; and brother, Bernard Doolittle (Faye), also of Sandersville.
