Bobby C. Strickland

Mr. Bobby C. Strickland, age 78, of North Main Street in Tennille, died Sunday, February 24, 2013. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 27th at 11:00am at the Tennille Baptist Church with burial in the Zeta Cemetery. Rev. Andy Yates will officiate. Pallbearers will be Carl Forrester, Aubrey Wiggins, Dean Ennis, Grayson Upton, Sam Dell, Mike Sheppard, Jimmy McConnell and Jason Boatright. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of the Tennille Baptist Church and the Washington County Fire Fighters Association.

Mr. Strickland was born in Cherokee County N.C., the son of the late R.N. Strickland and the late Earle Bryson Strickland. He was an electrician and diesel mechanic for Thiele Kaolin Company retiring after 38 years of service. Mr. Strickland was a faithful public servant to the City of Tennille serving as a council member for 45 years consecutively from 1960 to 2005. He served as a volunteer fireman for the City of Tennille for 37 years retiring in 2004 as Assistant Chief. Mr. Strickland was an active member of the Tennille Baptist Church where he served as the church clerk and as a longtime Deacon. He was a member of the Tennille Masonic Lodge #256 F&AM and a member of the Al Shiah Shrine Temple. Mr. Strickland was a US Air Force (SAC) Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors are; his wife Bernice Brown Strickland, sons, Russell J. Strickland, and Lee N. (Michele) Strickland all of Tennille, grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Strickland, Benjamin N. Strickland,and Jay Williams, brothers, Harry E. (Mary Ann) Strickland and Russell “Butch” (Sandy) Strickland both of Tennille, his sister Becky Strickland Lang of Chester VA., and nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be at the Strickland residence on N. Main Street in Tennille and they will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 to 7pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
