Our mother was one of the most devoted, courageous, determined, energetic, gutsy, and fun-loving people God created. Mom loved adventure, travel, reading, bragging on her kids, grandkids and great-grands. She never met a stranger, making friends with her Doctors and nurses in her last days.
Mom maintained unique and close relationships with each of her five children and her chosen son, Zbynek. Those many many loving phone calls will be missed by each one of us. Mom was always interested in our lives and what we were doing!
Mom was an avid reader, reading thousands of books in her lifetime. We remember her reading 2 or 3 books a day at times. This was in her spare time after making sure Daddy had his breakfast or supper, the dogs, cats and chickens were fed and all of her daily activities. Mom possessed the ability to put things together and make it happen. She was the mastermind of creative planning and had the gift to multi-task long before that was a catch phrase.
When her first marriage fell apart, she refused to run home to her parents, rather she boldly faced life and made the best of it at age 27 with 3 kids. Augusta, Georgia became our home for the next 8 years until she met Andy. Mom and Andy were married on March 15, 1974 together they faced life’s joys and sorrows for 48 years. The next year Mary Margaret was born. Then in 1980, Mom became a mother and grandmother in the same day when Andrea arrived and later that day Jeremy, her first grandchild.
Mom was born on January 7, 1940 in Glassport, Pennsylvania, the oldest of 5 siblings. At the age of 5, her family moved to Hampton, Virginia where she graduated from Hampton High School. Besides her skill for speed reading, Mom was a perfect speller of words. She often pointed out any misspelled signs or words she saw.
Mom was always thrilled to be on an adventure with one of her kids or grands. For her 80 th birthday, we each one took her on an adventure somewhere. Mom knew how to have fun and laugh. She was compassionate towards all she knew regardless of race, age, status or religion. She loved doing for others and enjoyed giving gifts to young mothers and those less fortunate or in need.
On July 4 th 2000, Zbynek Precechtel came to the family 4th of July BBQ and became Mom’s second son. This was Mom, there were no boundaries! And of course, his family became her family.
Mom loved shopping and was always looking for a bargain!
Mom was active in the Mitchell Ladies Club, many Bridge Clubs and as a Red Cross Volunteer. She enjoyed Netflix. Mom felt compelled to help lift others with her words of
comfort and support face to face, on the phone or on Facebook. She recently enjoyed following a Slovak group on Facebook.
Her job history was a testimony to her fearlessness. Waitress, Dairy Farmer, Substitute Teacher, Secretary,Seamstress, Postal Worker, Hardware Store owner, Walmart Stocker, Nursing Home Caretaker, Garment Factory Seamstress, Consignment Shop owner, Baker, Mystery Shopper, UHaul Truck Mover and most of all, an exceptional loving Mother and wife.
