Mr. Bernard Lamar Hodges Jr., known as Buddy, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022 following an extended illness. A graveside funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, January 4th at 2:00 p.m. in Bay Spring Cemetery in Oconee. His grandson, Nathan Hodges will officiate. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until noon at May and Smith Funeral Home.
Buddy was born on December 8, 1950, to the late Bernard Lamar Hodges Sr. and the late Mary Tanner Hodges. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County. Buddy began his working career as a heavy equipment operator for Marion Snider and later worked for C.T. Harris Inc. Later in life Buddy was self-employed as an auto body repair person and mechanic. He loved to be outdoors fishing or hunting and was known by family and friends as a "jack of all trades". His greatest joy was to be with his family, especially with his grandchildren, all while possessing his affectionate smile. Buddy is predeceased by his wife Sue Fowler Hodges and siblings, Barbara Elton, Vicki Blue, Greg Hodges, Beverly Hodges, and Debra Jean Hodges.
Survivors are his children, Bernard Lamar "Peewee" Hodges, III of Tennille, Ricky Hodges and his wife Tonya of Sandersville and Kelli Hodges of Tennille; grandchildren, Hailey Hodges Katz and her husband Josh, Anna Hodges, Nathan Hodges and his fiancé Mallory, Ryan Hodges, Nicholas Patisaul, Averi Patisaul and Lyric Hodges; great-grandchildren, Lizzie Hodges, Eli Matthews, Ila Matthews, and Jillian Katz and his brother Bruce Hodges and his wife Tammy of Sandersville.
