Carllene Sumner Veal

September 13, 1927 — January 30, 2024

Johns Creek

Mrs. Carllene Sumner Veal, age 96, of Johns Creek, formerly Louisville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Her family would like to invite you to celebrate a life well lived, at a graveside service Saturday, February 3 rd at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, 1132 Harts Ford Rd, Tennille, Ga. Mrs. Veal's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will greet friends in the church sanctuary from 12 noon until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m. Ralph Veal and family will officiate the service.

Carllene was born on September 13, 1927, the daughter of the late Robert Eugene Sumner and the late Nitha Zimmie Tyson Sumner. She and her late brother Dan and late sister Polly grew up on a family farm straddling the Johnson/Washinton County line and bordering the Ohoopee River. Following her graduation from Wrightsville High School class of 1944, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Harry Veal who predeceased her. They lived in both Dublin and Louisville where they lovingly raised their family.

Carllene always wanted to be a "participator" and not a "spectator". She lived life to the fullest and was an amazingly smart and creative lady. She had a passion for genealogy and belonged to the DAR. She loved flowers, served as a National Garden Club flower show judge, and spent many hours tending her yard. She created a beautiful habitat where she enjoyed a favorite pastime of watching and feeding birds. Another passion she shared with Harry was traveling. Although she had seen all fifty states in the US and many other parts of the world, she was always ready when someone said, "let's go".

Survivors include her children, Jeff Veal and his wife Mary of Johns Creek, Jo Veal of Atlanta, Jane Bedingfield and her husband Barry of Bogart, Judy Rice of Atlanta and Jean Miller and her husband Neal of Evans; her beloved 12 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Betty Jones 2979 Mt. Gilead Church Rd. Tennille, Ga. 31089
