Carol English Raines

Mrs. Carol Stone English Raines, age 88 of Sandersville passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Tennille Retirement Home. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Sandersville United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Stan Littleton officiating. Interment will be private.

Mrs. Raines was born in Louisville, the daughter of the late Carley Frank “C.F.” Stone and the late Alene Hartley Stone. She was the wife of the late Benjamin Forest English, Jr. for 37 years until his passing in 1991. Mrs. Raines was a teacher by trade, teaching at Washington County High School in the 1960’s. She was the first high school teacher hired at Brentwood School in 1970, where she taught business until her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Raines made a tremendous impact on the lives of countless young people throughout Washington County. She also was involved in various community activities, singing in the church choir, and performing in productions with the Sandersville Music Club. Mrs. Raines liked to travel on school trips and with her friends. She was an avid bridge player, and later in life was the “self-appointed” greeter at Tennille Retirement Home. Above all else, she truly loved spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Raines was married to the late Larry Raines from 1999 until his passing in 2011. She was a member of Sandersville United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she is proceeded in death by her sister, Annelle Stone Sigmon.

Mrs. Raines is survived by her daughters, Kelli E. Avant (Lee) of Sandersville, Ellen E. Hall (Randy) of Deepstep, and Emily E. Snell (Jim) also of Sandersville; son, Benjie English (Ginger) of Sandersville; grandchildren, Amy Albright (Chris), Hudson Avant (Rachel), Ben Avant, Laura Woodard (Travis), Shelly Wilson (John), Shanna Snell, Kaitlyn Fronebarger (Cole), Benjamin English, Jr, Harris English (Helen Marie); great grandchildren, Austin Albright, Wyatt Albright, Tori Albright, Georgia Avant, Harrison Woodard, Emma Grace Woodard, Lilly Meier, Noah Avant, Emmitt Fronebarger, Cade Fronebarger; and nieces, Ponnie Reed and Jane Grelis.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service in Heritage Hall at Sandersville United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Sandersville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 611, Sandersville, Ga. 31082 or Brentwood School in Mrs. Raines’ memory, P.O. Box 955, Sandersville, Ga. 31082.

The family will be at the home of Kelli and Lee Avant, 91 Twin Oaks Drive, Sandersville, GA 31082.
