Mrs. Carolyn Thomas Helton, age 89, of Washington Ave., in Sandersville, died Friday, August 10, 2012 at her residence. A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 12th at 3:00pm at the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. The Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate.
Mrs. Helton was born in Jefferson County the daughter of the late Clarence Williams Thomas and the late Mae Belle Moxley Thomas. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church where she served her church in numerous leadership roles. She was a member of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women and the Mamie Tarbutton Circle. Mrs. Helton was also a member of the Transylvania Club and an avid bridge player with the Thursday Bridge Club. She is predeceased by her husband Bernard Lamar Helton Jr., her grandson Chris Helton and her son-in-law Darryl Harris.
Survivors are: her children, Bernard L. (Linda) Helton III and William Thomas “Tom” (Angela) Helton all of Warthen and Anne H. Harris of Deepstep; grandchildren, Billy (Natasha) Helton, Alan (Cynthia) Helton, all of Warthen, Lamar (Leah) Helton of Sandersville, Lacey H. (Jay) Shepherd of Dublin, David Tanner of Deepstep, Daniel (Cassidy) Harris of Evans, Dalton Harris, Damon Harris both of Deepstep, and great-grandchildren, Chris Helton, Will Helton, Ben Helton, Andrew Helton, Jacob Helton, A.J. Shepherd and Hattie Grace Shepherd; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the Helton residence on Washington Avenue in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 to 2:30pm at the Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.
