Mrs. Carolyn Durden Phillips, age 74, of Macon, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Wednesday, May 22nd at 3:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Pastors Jim Johnson and Corey Maurer will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Spath, Kendon McMurray, Joseph Wooten, Ayden Phillips and Will Phillips and Eric Johnson. Carolyn's family will greet friends also on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.
Carolyn was a native of Washington County and was reared in Tennille where she attended school. She began her working career at the Youth Development Center in Sandersville as an educator. While working full time, Carolyn attended Georgia Military College and graduated Suma Cum Laude with an associates degree in education. In 2001, she moved to Jones County where she worked in accounting for the Macon Superior Court Probation from which she retired. While living in Tennille, Carolyn was an active member of the Tennille Church of God. In Macon she was a member of Christ Community Church and currently the United Community Church. She was an avid reader and cherished her bible study time where she created numerous journals. Carolyn was known as a prayer warrior. She loved her dogs Spot, Buddy and Lilly. Being with her family was her favorite thing to do. Her pastimes included crocheting and fishing. She was a super cold natured person who was often seen in long sleeve and using a blanket even in the summer. Carolyn is predeceased by her husband Jerry Phillips, her son, Douglas Heath Phillips and siblings, Gail Johnson, Judy Kennedy and Fayer Lister.
Survivors include her children, Mike Phillips and his wife Jennifer of Roberta, Nichole P. Spath and her husband Thomas of Macon and her daughter-in-love Lisa Ann Hutchinson and her husband Brian; grandchildren, Destiny Ann McMurray (Kendon), Gabrielle Grace Phillips (Brittney), Ayden Michael Phillips, William Walker Phillips and Noah Roger Hughs; great grandchildren, Isabella Ann McMurray, Beckam Ryan McMurray and Tatum Knox McMurray; and siblings, Johnny Durden (Arlene) and Sarah Parker.
