Catherine Hattaway Woods

Mrs. Catherine Hattaway Woods, age 93, of Warthen, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 19, 2024, following an extended illness.  A graveside funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, May 21st at 11:00 a.m. in Pine Hill Methodist Church Cemetery, on Hamburg State Park Road north of Warthen.  Reverend Stan Littleton will officiate.  Mrs. Woods' family will greet friends following the graveside service.

Mrs. Woods was born, reared and a lifelong resident in Warthen, the daughter of the late Richard Thomas Hattaway Sr. and the late Ella Mary Walker Hattaway.  She attended School in Warthen, graduated from Sandersville High School and attended business school.  She worked in administrative roles for several companies prior to beginning a 40 plus year career with George D. Warthen Bank, where she worked mostly as a teller.  She loved her work, and it was always a high priority in her life.  Mrs. Woods was a longtime member of her childhood church, Pine Hill Methodist where she served as a longtime children's Sunday School Teacher.  She loved plants, flowers and took pride in her yards at her home.  Working word search puzzles and shopping were some of her favorite hobbies.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Woods is predeceased by her husband William Melton Woods, Jr. and her son Billy Woods.

Survivors include her son Al D. Woods of Warthen, daughter-in-law Helen C. Woods also of Warthen; grandchildren, Jennifer C. Wood and Greg Brantley; great grandchildren, Briar Brantley, Easton Wood and Will Wood; siblings Richard "Bud" Hattaway and Shirley H. May and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Woods family would like to acknowledge their appreciation to the staff of Washington County Extended Care Facility and also Pruitt Hospice for the exceptional care they rendered.
