Charles Barney Davis, Jr.

Mr. Charles Barney Davis Jr., age 90, of Norcross, died Sunday, November 21, 2010 in Atlanta. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held on Tuesday at 2:00pm at the Jackson’s Baptist Church Cemetery in Sandersville with Rev. Marlon Lastinger officiating.

Mr. Davis was born in Washington County the son of the late Charles Barney Davis Sr. and the late Bernice McConell Davis. Mr. Davis was a graduate of Tennille High School in 1937, Middle Georgia College and Emory University in 1941. He also obtained a master’s degree from Mercer University and Education Specialist degree from the University of Georgia. Mr. Davis was an Army Veteran of WWII and also served as a captain in the National Guard. He was a retired principal and athletic coach working for Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, Mt. Vernon-Ailey High School in Mt. Vernon, Hart County High School in Hartwell and retiring in 1976 from Norcross High School in Norcross. Mr. Davis was a member of the Norcross Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher.

Survivors are; his wife Ruth Crawford Davis of 66 years; his sons, Charles Barney Davis III (Gloria) of Raleigh NC., Thomas Donald Davis (Barbara) of St. Simons, Allen Bryant Davis (Miriam) of Fernandina Beach FL., and William Robert Davis (Kathey) of Loganville, grandchildren, Charles B. “Chad” Davis IV (Holly) of Norcross, William Parker Davis (Cassie) of Forsyth, Brent Carroll Davis (Jennifer) of Statesboro, Leila Davis Saunders (Jamey) of Portal, and Bryant Nicklaus Davis on Honolulu HI., and six great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at graveside.
