Mr. Charles O. Elton, age 94, of Augusta, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at his residence following an extended illness. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 20th at 2:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Rich Bowen will officiate. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service also at the funeral home.
Mr. Elton was born and reared in Oconee, the son of the late Owen Elton and the late Mary Anne Yates Elton. His job with Universal Utilities relocated Mr. Elton to Augusta where he would spend the rest of his life. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for over 30 years. Mr. Elton was an active member of New Hope Worship Center in Augusta where he was a church Deacon and also worked with church finances. He loved to fish and hunt and possessed a love for old cars and restoring them.
Mr. Elton is survived by his wife, Joyce Thigpen Elton, of Augusta; great nephews, Gregory Jimenez and his wife Isila, and Charles Jimenez and his wife Lorenmae whom, he lovingly referred to as sons and daughters in-law. He is also survived by a third beloved great nephew, Vincent Taylor, and several extended family members.
Donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity or to New Hope Worship Center in Augusta in memory of Charles O. Elton.
