Mr. Charles Shurling, age 79, of Sandersville died on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 19, at the Ohoopee Baptist Church near Tennille. Reverend Paul Melton will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Smith, Mark Riner, George Turk, Thomas Scott, Gary Anderson, Edwin Thompson, Jimmy Lewis and Russ Brown.
Mr. Shurling was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Olin Lamar Shurling and the late Bessie Mae Hooks Shurling. Mr. Shurling graduated from Middle Georgia College and Southern Techincal Institute in 1960 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a retired maintenance engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a member and deacon of Ohoopee Baptist church where he taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir. Mr. Shurling was a member of the Tennille Masonic Lodge #256 F&AM, the York Rite Bodies, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Al Shiah Shrine. Mr. Shurling was a past Grand Master of the 10th Masonic District and served as a trustee of the Georgia Masonic Children's Home for twelve years. He was a member of Gideon's International.
Survivors are his wife, Lynn McNeely Shurling of Sandersville; two daughters, Kim Shurling Seals and her husband Greg of Milledgeville and Judy Shurling of Tennille; three grandchildren, Danielle Hollinshead and her husband Coy, Keith Rhodes and his wife Whitney and Matthew Tanner and his wife Allyson; five great grandchildren, Abi Tanner, Adam Tanner, Sadie Hollinshead, Scout Hollinshead and Harry Rhodes and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggest donations be made to the Ohoopee Baptist Church P.O. Box 313, Tennille, Georgia 31089 or The Gideon's P.O. Box 891, Sandersville, Georgia 31082.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Monday.
May and Smith Funeral Directors are in charge of the arrangements.
