Mr. Charles Lewellyn Smith, age 76, of CB Club Road, Sandersville, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Washington County Regional Medical Center. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Warthen. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be David Smith, David Nolan, Jamie Swint, Jessie Langford, James Monroe, Cecil Davis, and Roy Davis. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 25, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born and raised in Washington County, the son of the late William Dudley Smith and the late Frances Zagar Smith. He spent his working career as a machinist, with LAPP and Waco Electric. Charles enjoyed many different activities which included dancing, fishing at the lake, riding motorcycles, tinkering with tractors, and gardening. He was a “people person,” who never met a stranger and always enjoyed a good conversation. Charles was very affectionate and often greeted those he knew with various terms of endearment like, “darling, sweetheart, or boo.” Above all else, Charles loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Charlie Smith, brother, Jule Smith, sister, Shirley Landry, and nephew, Will Peeler. Charles was of the Nazarene faith.
Mr. Smith is survived by his children, Missy Smith, Pam Reese and her husband Scott, both of Sandersville, Ricky Smith of Milledgeville, Lynne Smith, and Austin Smith, also both of Sandersville; grandchildren, Errin Bingham and her husband Matthew of Eleuthera, Bahamas, Walter Preston Reese and his wife Amber of Warthen, Mary Beth Hadden, Ryelyn Hadden, and Ellie Hadden, all of Mitchell; great granddaughters, Magnolia Bingham and Lillie Ruth Reese. Significant other, Margaret Hadden and her son Robert Hadden (Brandy) of Mitchell; brothers, William Smith, Larry Smith, Michael Smith, and Chris Smith; sisters, Mary Boatright, Mabel Jenkins, Schynell Bragg, Angie Easterly, and Nora Rachels; and many other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Smith Family Funeral Support Fund, P.O. Box 1016, Sandersville, GA 31082.
