Mr. Charles Wayne "Willie" Brooks, age 79, of Sandersville passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a later date.
Wayne was born and reared in Washington County son of the late Charles Arthur Brooks and the late Lucille Renfroe Brooks. His family moved to South Carolina when he was a teenager and he graduated from A.C. Flora High School in Columbia. Wayne met the love of his life, Judith Lynne Frick while in high school and they married in 1963 and returned to Washington County. Wayne enjoyed a long career as a radio announcer working for WSNT Radio and other stations though out middle Georgia. He was known for his distinctive voice for the "House of Pain" WaCo football team. He also broadcasted Brentwood Football and Basketball. Throughout the years he coached many baseball and softball teams and served as an umpire for 26 years. Later in life Wayne worked for Lapp Insulator, drove for Borden's Milk Company and Ward Transportation. He was the former co-owner of taxicab company in Dublin. Wayne's latest passion was doing computer art.
Survivors include his children, Nikki Raughton and her husband Mike, Charles "J" Brooks and his wife Ladonna and Chris Brooks and his wife Carly; grandchildren Kira Smith (Zack), T.J. Raughton, Destiny Brooks (Emory), Charles "Tyler" Brooks (Kara) and Chase Brooks; great grandchildren, Ander Smith, Bowen Smith, Calla Smith, Ashliee Brooks, Dallas Brooks, Alston Brooks, Colton Brooks, Charles "Jayce" Brooks, Pasleigh Brooks, Pippa Lawson and Zoe Rix; and his sister Marie Brantley.
Mr. Brooks family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Washington County ECF and to Pruitt Hospice for their compassionate care.
