Christopher Alan Thomas, age 54, was born on June 23, 1969 and passed over the river to lay under the shades of the trees, on Saturday morning April 27th, 2024. A brief memorial service will be held on May 4th at 2pm, at Dreamland Farms, 485 Thompson Road, Sparta, Georgia. All friends and family are welcome to attend.

Son of the late Alfred Sheldon Thomas, and grandson of the late Albert and Helen Thomas, as well as the late Herbert and Margaret Darr, Chris lived the majority of his life in Washington County. After graduating high school, he began his service working with the Georgia Department of Corrections, and eventually transferred to the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. Prior to retiring with 32 years of service, he was the training director for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. Several of his key accomplishments include being certified as a P.O.S.T Instructor, a Senior Instructor, Master Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and Emergency Medical Instructor. Chris also served with the Georgia Defense Force under the Georgia Department of Defense as a Chief Warrant Officer 2, second brigade S-3 operation, plans & schools. Upon retirement Chris devoted, the majority of his time, as a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans Mechanized Cavalry. He enjoyed providing programs, presentations, and monthly newsletters for his Camp #690, W.F. Jenkins in Eatonton, Georgia. In April of 2024, Chris was the proud recipient of the Georgia Division Service Award. Chris will always be remembered for his great passion in coyote hunting, deer hunting, fishing, and reading historical novels.

Survivors include his wife Ann Thomas of Sandersville GA; his mother, Judy Rivers and her husband William “Bill” Rivers of Warthen GA. He is also survived by his three children, Shannon Marie Rogers (Ramie) of Douglasville, GA, William Phillip Callaway (Tia) of Loganville, GA, and Jessalyn Sarah Thomas (Isaiah) of Lincoln NE; six grandchildren, Cash Callaway, Lainey Callaway, Charlie Jade Zbinden, Jackson Callaway, Jonas Zbinden, and Avery Callaway.

In lieu of flowers please send any memorial gifts as a donation, to the Sons of Confederate Veterans Heritage Defense Fund, which can be found at georgiasvc.org/donate/. These funds are used to legally challenge all those who have tried to erase the memory of our Confederate ancestors and their Cause, as well as restore damaged monuments in Georgia.
