Mr. Clarence J. Garner, of Oscar Drive, Sandersville, died Thursday, April 6, 2017 following an extended illness. A funeral service will on Sunday, April 9 th at 2:00 p.m. at Piney Mount United Methodist Church with burial in Washington County Memorial Gardens. Reverends Mike Bankston and Bob Williams will officiate. Mr. Garner’s grandsons will service as pallbearers.
Mr. Garner was born in Newton, Baker County the son of the late Audrey Merritt Garner and the late Christine Smith Garner. He was retired from Georgia Department of Transportation as a right-of-way agent. In retirement, Mr. Garner worked for the Washington County Tax Assessors. He was a member of Piney Mount United Methodist Church and served in the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Garner loved fishing, hunting and gardening. He is predeceased by his daughter, Melissa Ann Garner and his sister, Gloria Jean G. Youngblood.
Survivors are: his wife of 55 years, Jo Ann Wommack Garner; children, Kenneth A. Garner and his wife Candi, Jeffrey C. Garner and his wife Jennifer, Eric T. Garner and his wife Melissa and Joseph M. Garner all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Joshua Garner and his wife McCall, Bradley Garner, Landon Garner, Mabrey Garner, Cameron Hughes, Deric Garner, Ian Garner, and Jordan Garner; his daughter-in-law Amy Garner; and sister, Joanne G. Parlier and her husband Chuck of Charlotte NC.
The family will be at the Garner residence on Oscar Drive and they will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
