Mr. C. Brookins Beck Sr., age 85, of Milledgeville, died Friday, October 4, 2019 following an extended illness. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 6 th at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Milledgeville. Burial will be held in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville at 5:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the Church. Pallbearers will be Greg Layfield, Evan Hughes, Scott Kay, Brian Hopkins, Mack Flemister, Lee Wilson, Keith Green, Danny Borders, Steve Kell, and Stephen Calhoun.
Mr. Brookins was born in Wilkinson County, the son of the late Elmo Newton Beck and the late Louise Brookins Beck. He graduated from Sandersville High School and attended Wake Forest on a football scholarship. Brookins served his country in the US Army Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict. He attended the University of Georgia following his military service prior to beginning a long career in the Kaolin Industry. Brookins worked for Thiele Kaolin and retired from Burgess Pigments Company as a sales representative traveling “13 states for 31 years”. He was an active member in a 12-step program. Through 36 years of work in this program he touched thousands of lives, sharing a message of hope. Brookins was active with Bridges of Hope in Louisville, where he served on its board of directors and lead a weekly Big Book study for many years. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel with his wife Sarajayne. Mr. Beck is predeceased by his son, Troy Beck, a granddaughter, Samantha Lynn Adams and his first wife, Betty F. Beck.
Survivors include his wife Sarajayne Garner Beck of Milledgeville; children, Claude Brookins Beck Jr., of Sandersville and Teresa B. Barlow and her husband Kenny of Milledgeville; grandchildren, Sarah Louise Conger, Teresa Nichole Evans, Claude B. Beck III, Jeffery Darrell Beck, Jeremy Dustin Beck and his wife Britney; five great grandchildren; sister, Elaine Beck Williams and her husband Theo of Edgefield S.C.; nieces, Caroline Williams and Martha Sanders and her husband Chuck; and nephews, Reg Williams Jr. and his wife Deanna and Tim Williams and his wife Susan.
