Mrs. Claude Dudley Bellew, age 95, of Warthen, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 at her residence. A graveside funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, January 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Don Black and Reverend Gary Walker will officiate. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
Mrs. Bellew was born in Jefferson County and reared in Warthen in Washington County, the daughter of the late Thomas W. Dudley and the late Elizabeth Cobb Dudley. She graduated from Sandersville High School class of 1945. She began her working career as a seamstress at Royal Manufacturing until she retired to care for family and remained a homemaker. Mrs. Bellew was a longtime member of Balerma Baptist Church and was currently a member of Pine Hill Methodist Church. Attending church was always a high priority for her. She loved cooking and was known for her pecan pies. She and her late husband George loved camping and fishing. She could often be seen working in her yards even into her 90's. She cherished time spent with her family especially her grandchildren and great grands. Mrs. Bellew is predeceased by her husband, George Alfred Bellew and all of her siblings of which she is the last.
Survivors include her children, Faye Burgamy and her husband Duck of Warthen, Alfred Bellew and his wife Connie and Claudette Andrews and her husband Windell all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Dawn Brown and her husband Tony of Alpharetta, Paula Maxwell and her husband Jason of Bonaire, Kelli Whitted and her husband Robert of Columbus, and David Bellew and his wife Crissy of Fernandina Beach FL; step-grandchildren, Keith Andrews and his wife Tina and Michele Durden and her husband Chris all of Sandersville; great grandchildren, Madison Brown, Maci Brown, Benjamin Whitted (Rachel), Lydia Whitted, Avery Bellew, Eliot Bellew, Evan Bellew, Caroline Maxwell, Jake Maxwell, Ryan Maxwell and Michelle Canada; step great grandchildren, Hannah Maxwell, Dylan Andrews and Kristin Beggs (Joe); and great great grandchildren, Blakely Rush, Bayler Rush and Kolson Diel.
