Cleveland Cowart

Mr. Cleveland “Rook” Cowart, age 85, of 7625 Heards Bridge Road in Bartow died Wednesday May 11, 2011 in the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday May 13 in the Josey Baptist Church near Bartow with burial in the Josey Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Inman Gerald and Rev. Bill Snipes will officiate.

Mr. Cowart was a native of Emanuel County, Georgia, the son of the late Robert Allen Cowart and the late Annie Elizabeth Turner Cowart. He was a retired logger for Federal Paper Board. Mr. Cowart was a former cook for William’s Seafood in Savannah and a former school bus driver for the Washington County Board of Education. He was a member and deacon of the Josey Baptist Church. Mr. Cowart was preceded in death by a son, Danny Sheppard.

Survivors are his wife, Barbara Story Cowart of Bartow, his children, Peggy Ann Cowart Snipes and her husband Troy of Bartow, Tommy C. Cowart and his wife Shirl of Riddleville, Sandra Waters and her husband Wayne of Davisboro, Everett Sheppard and his wife Connie of Harrison, Brenda Cowart and her husband Joel of Wadley, Debbie Wilcher and her husband Ronnie of Riddleville, and Bobby Sheppard and his wife Dianne of Davisboro, thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a brother, Virgil Eugene Cowart of Bartow.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday.
