C.W. "Jack" Maffett Jr.

August 18, 1928 — February 25, 2018

Mr. C.W. “Jack” Maffett, Jr., age 89, of Sandersville, died Sunday, February 25, 2018 following a brief illness.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 28 th at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in Washington County Memorial Gardens.  Reverend Lee Lacey and Reverend Charles Price will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Sandy Mercer, Edwin Thompson, Alfred Brantley, Brad May, Ben Layton, Roger Kicklighter, Jimmy Smith and Wayne Jones.  The Sandersville Lions Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Maffett was born and reared in Johnston S.C., the son of the late Clarence Wyteman Maffett Sr. and the late Jessie Edwards Maffett.  He was a proud graduate of Clemson University in 1950 and remained an avid Tiger fan possessing season tickets for 45 consecutive years.  Mr. Maffett was a Civil Engineer retiring from the Georgia Department of Transportation in 1982 as District Pre Construction Engineer.  In retirement, Jack formed C.W. Maffett Professional Engineer, a consulting firm doing extensive work for the City of Sandersville and the Washington County Regional Medical Center.  Mr. Maffett was an active member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville where he served as a former Church Deacon, former Sunday School teacher as well as serving the church in numerous leadership roles.  He was a founding member of the original Washington County Civitan Club and an active member of the Sandersville Lions Club where he was a former club president and a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was also a member of Hamilton Masonic Lodge #58 and a sixty year Mason.  The son of a John Deere dealer, Jack possessed a lifelong love of John Deere tractors.  He enjoyed working with the Carpenters for Christ and proudly served his country in the US Army in Korea.  Mr. Maffett is predeceased by his wife, Emma Ruth Cawley Maffett.

Survivors include: his daughters, Allyson Maffett of Sandersville, and Stephanie M. Salzinger and her husband Sandy of Atlanta; grandchildren, Meredith and Phillip Salzinger; sister-in-law, Mardelle Carter of Nichols; brother-in-law, Phil Cawley and wife Mary Ann of Macon and nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the Maffett residence on Woodland Drive in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
