Mr. Cyrus Thomas Harris, Sr., age 84, of 11592 Deepstep Road in Deepstep died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 14th, in the Deepstep United Methodist Church with burial in the Deepstep United Methodist Church Cemetery. Reverend Rick Holt and Reverend Gene Yelverton will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Methodist Men’s Club and Dave Jackson.
Mr. Harris was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Wiley Leo Harris and the late Valeria Giles Harris. He was predeceased by a son, Darryl Harris; two brothers, Elwood Harris and Welton Harris; and a sister, Minnie Frances Avant. Mr. Harris was the President and CEO of C. T. Harris, Incorporated. He was a member of the Deepstep United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and on the Administrative Council. He was also a charter member of the Methodist Men's Club.
Mr. Harris lived and worked each day relying on his faith in God as his guide. He was dedicated to and was always supportive of his family, his proudest accomplishment. He worked hard all his life, and in 1956 began his own business, C. T. Harris, Inc., always considering the employees of his company as his second family. His nickname, “Shine”, truly exemplified his life – filled with joy, strength, hope and love.
Survivors are: his wife of 66 years, Grace Veal Harris of Deepstep; two sons, Cyrus T. Harris, Jr. and his wife Sherry of Deepstep, and Michael Harris and his wife Patti of Deepstep; a daughter, Cindy Harris Andrews of Deepstep; a daughter-in-law, Anne Helton Harris of Deepstep; thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday.
