Daniel Cason Henry

August 31, 1931 — February 17, 2018

Mr. Daniel Cason Henry, age 86, of North Harris Street in Sandersville, died Saturday, February 17, 2018 in an Augusta Hospital.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 21 st at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in Brownwood Cemetery.  Reverend Lee Lacey will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Tommy Cain, Frank Young, Jimmy Walton, Benjie English, Jimmy Hall and Mike Sheley. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the McDonald’s Coffee Club of which he was a member.

Mr. Henry, also known as “Cuz” was born in Washington County, the son of the late Jesse Daniel Henry and the late Claire Cason Henry.  He was a member of the 1949 class of Sandersville High School.  Following high school, Dan was drafted by the US Marine Corps and served his country in Korea.  He worked for his family dairy on East Church Street in Sandersville and for Sandersville Railroad, where he helped construct the rail line from Sandersville to the Deepstep Road kaolin processing facilities.  Dan began work at Georgia Kaolin and retired from Imerys as a production foreman after a 37 year career.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville where he served as an usher and greeter.  Dan was best known as a sports enthusiast and intellect.  Dan served as the head of the “Chain Gang” on the side line of Washington County Football for 65 consecutive years beginning at Washington County High School and ending at Brentwood School.  He was the recipient of the Sam Burke award for high school athletic service as well as a two time recipient of the Eagle Award by Brentwood School for athletic service and enthusiasm.  Mr. Henry served as the longtime community coordinator for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile in Washington County.  He was a member of the AICC retirees club, the American Legion and the VFW where he served as quarter master.

Survivors include: his wife Maitland Smith Henry of Sandersville; his children, Daniel Craig Henry and Susan Henry Whittle both of Milledgeville; grandchildren, William Charles Henry, Carley Sinclair Henry and Zachary Cason Whittle; several nephews, one niece and other extended family.

The family will be at the Henry residence on North Harris Street in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
