Daniel Dixon Hutchins died peacefully on February 19, 2026 in Sandersville, Ga. He was born July 29, 1934 in Sandersville, GA to Miriam Wall Hutchins and William Hull Hutchins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William Wall Hutchins, and one nephew, Scott Hutchins.

He grew up in Sandersville attending local elementary and high schools. He went on to graduate from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism and as a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

After serving in the Army, Dan pursued his career in the newspaper business starting in Savannah, GA and eventually on to a position with Newhouse Newspapers in Atlanta, GA. The contacts he made while working enabled him to travel and he became an avid world traveler.

He lived on a farm with his beloved horses in Lawrenceville, GA while working in Atlanta and after retirement he decided to move back to Sandersville. He bought another farm in Washington County where he once again could have horses and an abundance of dogs and cats. Dan still knew a lot of people in Sandersville and became active in community events. He was in the local Lions Club, participated in the Kaolin Festival from time to time, loved the Rosa M. Tarbutton Memorial Library, was active in conservation efforts and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. He was a champion of wildlife and all animals.

He is survived by two nephews and a niece: Jeffrey Hutchins, Brian Hutchins, Linda Fullmer and cousins Sally Turner Witter, Thomas Turner, and Diane Turner Ingoe.

A graveside gathering in the Sandersville Old City Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date.
