Daphne Johnston Whitaker

Mrs. Daphne Johnston Whitaker, age 100, of Sandersville died on Thursday, October 22, 2015. Funeral services for Mrs. Whitaker will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 25, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. Reverend Roy Smith will officiate with burial in the West View Cemetery in Wrightsville.

Mrs. Whitaker was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late James Kendall Johnston and the late Eula Cochran Johnston. She was the wife of the late Thomas Watson Whitaker, and was preceded in death by her siblings, Harry Johnston, Mary Lou Fross, Breuster Hap Johnston, Peggy J. Duggan and Mildred Johnston. Mrs. Whitaker was a retired cashier for Piggly Wiggly. She was a member of the Tennille Christian Church. She was a member of the Bethany Community Club, the Tennille Eager Agers, the American Legion Auxiliary, Sisters Senior Citizens, the Joy Club, the Friendship Senior Citizens, and the Kaolin Travelers.

Survivors are her nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephew; and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday.
