Mr. Darryl E. Phillips, age 60 of Deepstep, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at a Macon hospital. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Bobby Williford and Mr. Lee Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mr. Phillips was born in Augusta, the son of the late John “Jimmy” Burt Phillips and the late Hilda Jeanette Kitchens. He was a trucker by trade and worked for Taylor and Sons Trucking and Veal Trucking. Mr. Phillips enjoyed riding motorcycles and hotrods. The most important aspect of his life was his love and desire to help others in any way that he could. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Louise Phillips, and Hilton and Lizzie Mae Kitchens; and stepson, Jess Dennard.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Polly Harris Phillips; stepson, Corey Vandiver (Kahler) of Newborn; sisters, Melba Courbat (Jerrod) of Tennille, and Melissa Bainbridge of Sandersville; grandchildren, Isabella Dennard, Zylan Corbin, Addison Vandiver, Kendall Vandiver, and Blakely Vandiver; niece Ashley Whitney; nephews, Devin Courbat; great niece, Grayli Wood; great nephews, Tylan Whitney, Tanner Whitney, and Tucker Whitney; special cousins, Lee and Eva Duncan; and special friend, C.G. Mandrell.
The family will be at the home of Melba and Jerrod Courbat on Club Forest Drive in Tennille.
