Ms. Deborah Green Stanley, age 69, of Sandersville, passed away peacefully Monday, June 27, 2022 in Marietta following an extended illness. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, July 2nd at 11:00 a.m., at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Davisboro City Cemetery. Reverend Jimmy Cason will officiate.
Debbie was a native of Washington County and member of Brentwood School's first graduating class in 1971. After a brief move to the Atlanta area, Debbie returned to Sandersville to work with her father, Pete Hodges, and family operating the Motel Clinton Restaurant and later The Steak House. As her children aged, Debbie joined the Washington County Health Department as programs administrator from which she retired. Working in the public eye for numerous years, she was known by many for her sweet smile and soft southern voice.
Debbie was a devoted mother and servant-hearted woman, who always put her children first. In everything she did, she sought to bring glory to God. Always compassionate and empathetic towards others, she saw the good in everyone. She lived by the refrain of her grandmother, "Do your best and let the Lord do the rest. " Debbie valued and cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Ms. Stanley is predeceased by her father, Robert E. "Pete" Hodges. Survivors include her mother, Geraldine Hodges; her children, Brian Stanley (Carmen) of Atlanta, Amy Stevick (John) of Warner Robins and Ray Stanley of Savannah; grandchildren, Pete Stanley, Paul Stanley, Mary Catherine Stanley, Meredith Stanley, Matthew Stevick and Daniel Stevick; and siblings, David Green, Lynne Beal, Robin Black (Steve), Joanna Powell, and Lee Hodges (Toni).
