Mr. Delma Lamar Godfrey, age 59, of Macon, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021. A private graveside funeral service will be held to celebrate Lamar's life. Reverend Charles Carter, Reverend Lee Hencely and Reverend Fred Reese will officiate. The family ask that social distancing practices be observed.
Lamar was a native of Washington County and reared in Oconee. He graduated from Washington County High School, and he started work with Millers Food Store and Washington Manufacturing Company prior to beginning a 26 year in the Kaolin Industry with Englehard as a laboratory technician. Following his work with Englehard, Lamar worked as a mechanic for Gilmer Industries. In retirement, he would often do plumbing, electrical or carpentry work for friends and family. Lamar loved history and participating in civil war reenactments. He was an active biker who loved to hunt, fish, and even go mud bogging. Lamar was an ordained minister and a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Twiggs County. He was instrumental in starting a park ministry in Central City Park in Macon to spread the gospel and give aid to those in need.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Woodard Godfrey of Macon; sons, Christopher Lamar Godfrey of Milledgeville and Robert Bryan Godfrey of Oconee; grandson, Logan C. Godfrey; and his parents, Delma Jewell and Kathelene Yates Godfrey also of Oconee.
