Derek Stacer Kennedy

Mr. Derek Stacer Kennedy, age 64 of Tennille, passed away at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta following a brief illness. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of May and Smith Funeral Home with burial in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be, Jimmy Lewis, Kevin Mathis, Dustan Usry, Ray Moon, Chet Smith, Jerry Duncan, Dean Helton and Don Helton. Mike Jackson, Donald Lewis, Collin Mathis, Ken Jackson, and Ronnie May will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Kennedy was born June 20, 1958 in Sandersville, the son of the late Joseph Harris Kennedy, II and the late Dorothy Anderson Kennedy. He was a 1977 graduate of Brentwood School and a 1979 graduate of Augusta Technical College. Mr. Kennedy was a lifelong farmer, as well as an electrician. He was a man with a big heart and a contagious laugh, who never held a grudge. Mr. Kennedy’s prized possession was his John Deere tractor, which was his own version of a Cadillac. He was the “Biggest Braves Fan Ever,” and always kept his tools very organized. Above all else he loved his family, and they came before everything else, this includes his grand dogs as well. Mr. Kennedy was a member of Tennille Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Joseph Harris Kennedy, III and Delcie Kennedy Everett.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by his loving wife, Annette Davis Kennedy; children, Jessica Kennedy Thompson and her husband Keith of Tennille, and Stacer Brandon Kennedy and his wife Mollie of Sandersville; grandchildren, Alissa Amerson, Kylee Kennedy, and Jacksyn Rae Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews.
