Mrs. Deryl Hardy Scarboro, age 86 of Sandersville, passed away at her residence on Thursday, June 20, 2024. A private, family only graveside will be held to celebrate her life.
Mrs. Scarboro was born in Sandersville, the daughter of the late John Barwick Hardy and the late Trudy Johnson Hardy. She earned her nursing degree from Barrett’s School of Nursing at University Hospital in Augusta. Mrs. Scarboro served for 49 years as Director of the Washington County Health Department, a job she loved so much that she worked 10 years past retirement. In her free time, Mrs. Scarboro enjoyed being outside working with her flowers, or shopping at Dillard’s. Her greatest love was helping people. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Ed Scarboro, Jr. and her grandson, Colby McCommon.
Mrs. Scarboro is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Edsel Scarboro, Sr.; daughters, LaDonna S. Prater (Michael) of Davisboro, Sheree McCommon of Milledgeville; and Bonnie S. Jackson (Kerry) of Sandersville; grandchildren, Katheryn Durden (Brandon), Morgan McCommon (fiancé, Drew Cook), Jesse Scarboro, and Brittany Bennett (Blake); great grandchildren, John Durden, Ivey Durden, Jackson Durden, and Maddie Bennett; and sister, Margaret Blackwell (Mitch) of Atlanta.
