Mr. Dock Charlie Bridges Sr., age 66, of Sandersville, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at the Oconee Nursing Home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September the 6th at 11:00am at the Kendall Heights Church of God with burial in the Washington County Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Bobby Williford will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dunn, Dylan Tyson, Wayne WIlliford, Marlie J. Lanthrip, Ronnie Dickerson and Les Lamb.
Mr. Bridges was born in Jefferson County the son of the late Rembert Bridges and the late Mary Magdeline Huff Bridges. Dock worked as a certified welder for Howard Sheppard Inc. for 35 years and was a member of the Kendall Heights Church of God. Mr. Bridges also served as a part-time evangelist and traveled with the Dixie Caravan Singers. In his leisure time he loved riding his motorcycle. Dock is predeceased by his son Dock Charlie Bridges, Jr.; two brothers, Billy Bridges and Donnell Bridges; and a sister, Mildred B. Screws.
Survivors are: his wife, Sara Marsh Bridges of Sandersville; children, Candi B. (Ken) Garner of Sandersville, Nancy B. (Chris) Flanders of Douglas, William Joseph “B.J.” (Joy) Bridges of Sandersville; grandchildren, Joshua (McCall) Garner, Bradley Garner, Rebecca Flanders, Charlie Flanders, Hagen Bridges, Collin Bridges, and Maddox Bridges; brothers, Milton “Pete”(Barbara) Bridges and Glenn (Sheila) Bridges all of Sandersville; sisters, Mary Ann (Danny) Brown of Sandersville and Sharon (Glenn) Osborne of Tennille; and his aunt, Cora (Willie) Wells of Alma.
The family will be at the home of Candi and Ken Garner on Kittrell Creek Road in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
