Master Sargent Donald O. Elton, retired, of North Harris Street in Sandersville, died Sunday, June 28, 2015 at his residence. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 1st at 2:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Military Honors. Mr. Elton’s son-in-law Walt Watson will officiate.
Mr. Elton was born in Oconee the son of the late William Henry Elton and the late Julia Cox Elton. He spent a career in the U.S. Air Force serving in both Korea and two tours in Vietnam. Following retirement from the Military, Don moved home to Washington County and worked for R.J. Studdard and Son, and also owned his own repair shop. He is predeceased by his wife Pearl Porter Elton.
Survivors include: his children, Roberta E. Lee and her husband Joe of Auburn, WA, Marie E. Watson and her husband Walt of Charlotte, NC, Mary E. Williams of Macon, Georgia, Donny Elton of Sandersville, Georgia, and William Charles Elton and his wife Betty Jo of Wrightsville, Georgia; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the Elton residence on North Harris Street in Sandersville, and they will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
