Mrs. Doris Moye Griffeth, age 89, of Sandersville, died Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, September 17th at 2:00 p.m. at Ridgeland Heights Baptist Church with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Tony Mimbs and Reverend L.T. Logue will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dennie McNeely, Alan Smith, Bill Nelson, Eddie Moye, Jimmy Lee Strowbridge, and Pete Golden.
Mrs. Griffeth was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Charlie Pilcher Moye and the late Essie Mae Shurling Moye. She accepted Christ when she was 12 years old and joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Tennille. Doris was a member of the Tennille High School class of 1948 and she attended business school in Atlanta. Following graduation, she returned to Washington County and began a lifetime career with the Georgia Department of Transportation in Tennille from which she retired. She was a member of the Georgia Department of Engineers Association. Doris was a faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she had the privilege of serving as the Worthy Grand Matron. She and her husband Milton were instrumental in establishing and longtime active members of Ridgeland Heights Baptist Church where Doris served her church in numerous leadership roles over the years. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and she loved her family and friends dearly. Mrs. Griffeth is predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Milton Griffeth.
Survivors are her children, Sabrina G. Ennis and her husband Dean of Sandersville and Brad Griffeth and his wife Serretta of Tennille; grandchildren, Charlton Boyd, Heather Williamson and her husband Lee, Kodi Wimberly and her husband Quan, Kaylee Cowart and her husband Austin and Eli Griffeth; eight great grandchildren; and her beloved caregivers, Misty Marshall and Angela Hunter.
The family will be at the Griffeth residence on Park Avenue in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
