Doris Shurling Scruggs Harris

October 5, 1920 — March 12, 2008

Mrs. Doris Shurling Scruggs Harris, age 87, formerly of College Park, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Ashton Woods Health Care Center in Atlanta. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in the Sisters Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Burt Parker will officiate. Pallbearers will be Steve Guthrie, Evans Guthrie, Dylan Tyson, Tris Tyson, Herman Channel, and Lamar Hawkins.

Mrs. Harris was born in Harrison in Washington County the daughter of the late Roger Gamble Shurling and the late Rosa Lee Tyson Shurling. Mrs. Harris worked as a bookkeeper retiring from National Linen Service and was a member of the First Baptist Church of East Point. She is predeceased by her husbands, Pierce L. Scruggs and M.D. Harris and her sister Myrtice Nelson and her brother Watson Shurling.

Survivors are her sister Mary Guthrie of Dandridge TN, brothers, Rodger Elmer Shurling of Evans and Billy Eugene Shurling of Thomson and 13 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1pm until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
