Mrs. Dorothy Tompkins Barksdale, age 92, of Albany, GA passed peacefully December 27, 2013 at her residence with children, grandchildren and faithful canine companion Fanci Lee by her bedside.
The funeral service will be held at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. United Methodist Ministers Cathy Green and Randy Spicer will officiate. Interment will follow at Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville, GA at 4:00 PM.
A native of Washington County, GA, Mrs. Barksdale has lived in Albany since 1955. She was a devoted member of Palmyra Road United Methodist Church and the Wesleyan Sunday School Class. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, The Wesleyan Circle and taught Sunday school for more than twenty years in the Children’s Department. She served in numerous leadership roles on the Church Council and focused on Mission projects. Mrs. Barksdale was a gracious homemaker, loving wife and mother. In earlier years she was employed at Sear’s and Roebuck Department Store in downtown Albany.
Mrs. Barksdale was preceded in death by her husband, William Wade Barksdale and her son-in-law, Delacey Fraser Sr.
Survivors include her children, Janet Alona Fraser of Albany GA, her son, William Wade Barksdale Jr. (Bill) of Albany, GA; Honorable Sheryl B. Jolly and her husband Edward B. Turner Jr. of Augusta GA; Her 6 grandchildren Janet Lee Fraser; Delacey Fraser, Jr. and his wife Tina, Will Fraser and his wife Ashley; Clayton L. Jolly IV, Daniel Wade Jolly, and Elizabeth Grace Jolly. 11 great grandchildren, Heather M. Wright and her husband Bobby, T.J. Mauldin and his wife Taylor, Holly M. Averette and her husband Wesley; Zachery Fraser, Zane Fraser and Kayla Marie Fraser; Mikayla Bair, Mason Fraser, Ian Fraser, Ashton Fraser and Mia Fraser. 6 great-great-grandchildren, Emree Wright, Elayna Wright, Bradley Wright; Kipton Fraser, Kashlyn Fraser, and Preston Averette. Special family members include Diane MacMillan, Clayton L Jolly III, Tony Mauldin, Tommy Watson Sr., Sonya Graham, Lydia Rensch, Tracy Edore and special caregiver Sandra Watson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kimbrell Stern Funeral Home 1503 Dawson Road Albany, GA

The family will also receive friends following the graveside service as Chester Dean restaurant on E. Haynes Street in Sandersville.
