E. Harold Rhodes

April 20, 1929 — May 16, 2013

Mr. E. Harold Rhodes, age 84, of Sandersville, died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Piney Mount United Methodist Church with burial in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Reverends Robert Wood, M.D. Cabe and Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be Barry Shurling, Jimmy Shurling, Robert Shurling, Russell Brown, Sam Rhodes, George Samples, Greg Rossidivito, Louis Tanner III, Tom Rhodes, Jr. and David Rhodes.

Mr. Rhodes was born in Burke County the son of the late Edgar Lee Rhodes and the late Jessie Mae Ford Rhodes. He was the owner/operator of Rhodes Body Shop for over 50 years. Mr. Rhodes was an active member of the Piney Mount United Methodist Church serving as a Sunday School Teacher, lay speaker and a Gideon. Mr. Rhodes served as a Tennille City Councilman and volunteer fireman for the City of Tennille. He was a 33 degree Mason and the oldest member of the Tennille Masonic Lodge# 256. Mr. Rhodes was a proud member of the 1946 Louisville Academy Red Raider State Champion football team. He is predeceased by his wife, Faye Shurling Rhodes; his brothers, J.W. Rhodes, Sr., Sam Rhodes and Tommy Rhodes.

Survivors are: his wife, Opal Veal Rhodes of Sandersville; daughters, Deborah Rhodes of Tennille, and Susie R. (Bomi) Bilimoria of Macon; step-daughters, Barbara H. (Mike) Cerra of Midway, Alisa H. (Joe) Rossidivito and Tara H. (David) Story all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Farrah Bilimoria, Sheila Bilimoria, Ava Bilimoria, Shannon Blizzard, Louis Tanner, Greg Rossidivito, Ashley Story, Allen Story, Durinda Orr and Joey Rossidivito; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the Rhodes residence, 611 Park Avenue, in Sandersville. They will receive friends on Friday from 5 to 7p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
